Corona Treatment Principle
1.Electric shock or breakdown
Under the action of the high-voltage electric field, the strong impact of the electron current on the plastic film can make the surface of the film fluff and become rough. It is a physical effect to bond the film fastness in the grooves formed. Observed under a high magnification magnifying glass, the surface of the treated film is obviously uneven and rough compared to the untreated film. The electrical shock strength can be enhanced with increasing voltage and current.
2. Increase the polarity of the film
Under the action of the high-voltage electric field, the oxygen in the air becomes ozone, and the ozone is decomposed into oxygen and new ecological oxygen atoms. The new ecological oxygen atom is a strong oxidant, which can oxidize α-carbon atoms in polyethylene or polypropylene molecules to form carbonyl or hydroxyl groups. With this structure, the molecular polarity of the film increases, the surface tension increases, the affinity for the adhesive increases, and the bonding fastness between the composite films increases.
In addition, due to the generation of carbonyl, new α-carbon atoms will be generated in the molecular chain, and active hydrogen will appear. This active hydrogen can chemically react with the active group isocyanate (-NCO) in the polyurethane adhesive, so that a strong chemical bond is formed between the material to be bonded and the adhesive, and the bonding fastness is increased. From the detection of infrared spectrum, it was found that the surface of the treated polyolefin film had carbonyl or hydroxyl absorption peaks on the spectral line, which proved that the above-mentioned chemical effects existed.
